YE2006
So I spent this last weekend hanging out at Providence College in the lovely town of Otterburne for their youth encounter. Its like Bethany's Youth Advance but a little bigger. Prov being in Otterburne is kind of like Bethany being in Hepburn but take away the town of Hepburn! There is really nothing around it at all.
It was kind of hard not to be comparing it to Bethany the whole weekend. I did see a couple people I didn't know wearing Bethany Eagles Soccer hoodies (from the year or two after me) and I wanted to say "Hey, I went to Bethany too!!!!" but I didn't cause I thought that sounded stupid and I am chicken :)
We went with 6 of our grade 12 youth - for those of you who don't know, James and I have been working with this group of kids in our church for years. I started when they were in grade 7 and James when they were in grade 8 (he was still at Bethany that first year). We just followed them when they moved from Jr. to Sr. High and now they are in grade 12. It has been so cool to watch them grow into adults and dedicated followers of Christ. And they are now more than our youth, they are our friends and we LOVE hanging out with them!!
The highlight for both of us from this weekend was the times we shared with the kids- sharing details of our lives, watching them worship, seeing their maturity and the character they have. It was awesome. Its the fruit of our ministry. And now some of them are starting to seriously consider Bible College for next year which I think is great.
Yay!

It's events like those that can really deepen relationships, eh? We (Andrew, Sara, and I) are taking our youth to Youth Advance this coming weekend. I'm really excited about it (a little nervous, too--I want them to love it as much as I do). There's no grade 12's this year but we can plant the idea of going to a bible school....
And the road trip should be fun--14 people in a 15 passenger van--good times! (I'll let you know if I survive;)

I was just about to leave a note asking if this what happens when you become older, pushing others to go to bible college?!? Sharon at Bethany, you at Prov:) I love it. I have been a little nostalgic about bethany lately. Someone asked me to compard Bethany and CMU and all I could say was community. Our community was intense, fun, silly, crazy, stressful, limited, small and one of the best times ever! And I am so thankful for those friends!
Hey Bob -- what, you're a chicken?! We must bring out the crazy in each other, eh?? Hey Cordella, I second your commentary on Bethany -- I was reflecting on Bethany friends the other day too. . . definitely a special time, and the best part is that it keeps on going! That is soo exciting to hear about your youth Bob -- seeing God working has seriously gotta be one of the best highs. Almost only 2 months. . . ;-) (does that make sense? - from the "English teacher")
The word verification word I need to enter here is "pbarfy." This makes me smile, and wonder if something deeper isn't going on here... Oh well.
